There are so many fun activities and events in New Mexico. October is so busy we get the calendar out in August and start to fill it up! There is only one event that gets every Santa Fe and Albuquerque bed and breakfast making hot coffee and bagel sandwiches at 4:00am. New Mexico tourism professionals agree that this is central New Mexico’s  top rated attraction.

So pack a warm jacket and bring the alarm clock!

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is just about the most famous and best attended event around these parts. Whether you fly high in a basket, volunteer as part of a chase crew or simply  stroll the field, the Balloon Fiesta is an experience of a lifetime.

The Mass Ascensions are the big all-out events taking place on the weekends, weather and winds permitting. Hundreds and hundreds of balloons fill the morning sky. The rush and roar of the burners, the cold blast of the super powered fans filling the envelope as it lays on the ground (that is what they call the big colorful balloon itself), it is all a trip, even if you never leave the ground.

It is all over by mid-day. Back to the Hacienda for some Posole and a nap and then off you go…lots to see and do in October in New Mexico.
